Suffolk, England. The Great Storm. November 1907.
Evelyn Maud Roberts, the housemaid at the vicarage in Wickham Market, hurries home late at night through the thunder and lightning.
She does not notice the figure in the woods watching as she stumbles and falls to the ground.
Next morning, she is discovered, stabbed to death. The local doctor announces she was six months pregnant.
Constable William Palmer, the village bobby, is young and ambitious, and dreams of being a detective in nearby Ipswich.
Now’s his chance to solve a murder case. He identifies three men who had a motive to kill Evelyn.
He only has today to find her murderer before the veteran detective, Inspector John Bloomfield, arrives from Ipswich to take charge.
The clock is ticking. The murderer may kill again…
